Top Reasons to pass the LEED AP Exam Prior to the LEED 2009 Transition
1) There are currently no prerequisites to take the LEED AP Exam. All a person has to do is pay the $400 Non USGBC member and pass the test to become a USGBC LEED AP.
2) LEED 2009 requirements will have many prerequisites including:
- LEED project experience on a least one project
- Documented proof of work on a LEED project within the last 2-3 years with verification by LEED online or attestation.
- Application submittal subject to audit with a 15 day waiting period
3) Fees for LEED 2009 will increase to $100 application fee, $450 exam appointment fee, and $200 specialty exam fee
4) The current LEED AP test is an 80 questions 2-hour test. The LEED 2009 AP test will be a 4-hour test.
5) If you become a LEED AP prior to the LEED 2009 transition you are considered a legacy.
6) LEED AP and only need to opt in to LEED 2009 by signing the disciplinary policy and complete credentialed maintenanance (Attending a Class) within 2 years.
7) Under the current LEED Exam requirements you can pay the fee and take the test as many times as you want until you pass. LEED 2009 will only let you take the test 3 times and then you are suspended for 3 months plus you must reapply to the USGBC.
8) Tentative timeline for LEED 2009 AP Exam full transition is late 2009. The USGBC will announce formal abandonment of the current LEED exam and give several weeks to register under the current exam requirements. |
